Aaron Sterritt Woodwork, Aviemore,

Aaron Sterritt Woodwork

Lives and works in Aviemore, Scotland within the Cairngorms National Park. Aaron creates contemporary pieces that are inspired by the natural characteristics of the wood in which he works.

"I mill and split my own wind blown wood so my hand is in the process from tree to final piece. I take great satisfaction in turning these trees into useful, valuable timber to be crafted into furniture and sculpture. My work is created through persistent experimentation. I have built up a vocabulary of different techniques in which to shape, mark and colour the wood creating form and texture. Inspiration often comes directly through the working process. Ideas are stumbled upon when sawing the wood or splitting along the grain using handtools.

At the core of all my work is a relationship between man and the material I work with. I like to combine and highlight the differences between nature, human hand and machine."

Aaron welcomes commission based work of any size.

Chris Stuart, Inverness,

Chris Stuart

Living in the Scottish Highlands I am reminded daily that this is an area with stunning scenery, fantastic light and an abundance of wildlife. Photography is a way of recording memories and it is perhaps a natural human instinct to want to share these with others. If enough people appreciate the beauty and benefits of the area then perhaps, together, we will ensure we protect the natural environment for the enjoyment of future generations.

My photographs are available for sale as prints (unmounted, mounted or mounted and framed) or as greeting cards, or as an image file for other use. Prints are made using high quality inks and art materials for products which should last a lifetime.

In addition I may be available for tuition and workshops, or for guiding to wild and remote locations.

Abernethy Art, Nethybridge,

Abernethy Art

Derek draws inspiration for his oil paintings from his long acquaintance with the mountains and coastal scenery of the north of Scotland. Although the paintings are representational, his individual style has a distinctive leaning towards abstraction which contributes to a feeling of place that the viewer can identify with, possibly through personal experience.

Texture is emphasised and the muted colours used contribute towards a very distinctive and personal interpretation of the essential nature of the Highland environment. Favourite subjects may be interpreted many times but the manner in which he prepares and applies paint ensures that no two paintings can ever be identical.

Derek wishes to acknowledge that his style is influenced by a technique developed by his friend and fellow artist the late Peter Barton.

Examples of Derek's work can currently be seen at Dandelion Designs, Stein, Isle of Skye, Riverside Gallery, Inverness and Tore Art Gallery, Tore, Muir of Ord.

Dower House Tweed Collection, Newtonmore,

Dower House Tweed Collection

How we got here.

Quite simply, I was taught to sew as a child. My mother was a seamstress. I could not go out and play without having done the chores which included sewing, and mending. So from an early age, with Mums tutoring, I made clothes, Christmas presents and all manner of things with buttons and fabrics.

Moving the clock on a few years, I came to live in Scotland and was introduced to Harris Tweed. I started making a few handbags for friends, then I was commissioned to make something else, and then something else, and so it went on. I now make 40+ products, from Harris Tweed. I personally go to the Isle of Harris and choose the colours and weaves that are used in the Dower House Tweed Collection.

What has emerged is my maternal love of all things Kiwi, so many of the products you see will have Kiwiana lining, which might be a Ponga forest; Pukekos, one of our native birds; Jandles or sheep or some other aspects of typical Kiwi life. For me, being a Kiwi, and married to a Scot it is the perfect match of 2 great countries, of heritage and culture, of using new kiwi prints with traditional tweeds and tartans - of where, some of my ancestors came from - warm, homely.

In 2011 we bought the Dower House and I set about to make curtains, cushions, lampshades and much more. There is a real warmth to the house and it fits so perfectly with the furniture from New Zealand timbers that came along for the journey - Harris Tweed compliments our house, our furniture, the rooms, the decor and the name began to stick!

We make practical, easy to use products that wear well and brighten your kitchen, dining room or add another dimension to your wardrobe. From the cafeteria cover that will give you a smile when you see the Buzzy Bees to the mobile pocket that is filled with sheep.

..you know you always said it is one place you would like to go, well now you have both countries in the one place..

Enjoy having a part of something special and different that is made by hand in Scotland.

Cairngorm Framer, Boat of Garten,

Cairngorm Framer

As a Scholar James' interests were in the creative side such as art & design, wood and metalwork. These tendencies led him into a joinery apprenticeship where he got involved with many building projects. The creative side took him more into cabinet making and finishing work.

The photography side is a similarly creative notion which came to the fore on a 10 month trip to Australia and new Zealand at the age of 23. His first SLR camera , a Canon AE1 Program was bought while there. On his return James started taking local scenes, getting prints made, and then framing them in his workshop.Pressures of work and family put this fairly much on the back burner for almost 20 more years until the lure became too much to resist. The challenge of combining elements of nature, with light and timing is addictive.

Getting out of bed not long after getting into it, to then head out in dark, sometimes wet conditions is often rewarded with spectacular lighting conditions as the day breaks. The workshop of today is more technical. From the capture of the 21mp SLR camera through to the archival inkjet printing process and finally to the framing bench for the finishing touch. These framed and canvas style images are beautifully presented and now proudly owned by many.

He is totally self taught through experience& experimentation and James has now produced a fine portfolio of predominantly local landscapes which are displayed at many Galleries and retail outlets in the area.

He has also produced work for various publications, Books & websites.

Julie Green, Keith,

Julie Green

Working from drawings and sketches in paint, ink or pencil in  sketchbooks, I like to create imagery, manipulate it in PhotoShop, then  transfer it on to a selection of surfaces, some of which have been raw materials, felt, old scraps of material, wood and often bird feathers, bones or stone.

Three dimensional pieces have been produced by casting from animal skulls in plaster or gum tape and then embellished with paint or found objects. Studies of the equine have been a strong element in my work for many years and I am often commissioned by horse owners to produce paintings or drawings.

Etching is a strong favourite of mine, having studied printmaking at Edinburgh College of Art for four years as well as painting and constructed textiles. I use these methods frequently and the Inverness Printmakers Workshop is a great facility for me.

Studio work is run alongside my career as an art teacher and I often use exemplars to inspire pupils of all ages. Equine imagery is produced in smaller formats for prints and greetings cards.

I have worked as a classroom teacher of art and design and used my skills every day to inspire pupils. Presently I am teaching at several secondary schools. I completed my Masters in Fine Art in August 2017.

Katie Jackson Designs, Newtonmore,

Katie Jackson Designs

Katie works from home in the village of Newtonmore. She designs and makes bags and accessories from Harris tweed - aiming to combine contemporary style with the traditional quality of the cloth. She likes to mix colours and patterns in each item and hardly ever makes two items exactly the same.

When she is not fulfilling bag orders for shops and galleries in the Highlands, Katie loves to experiment with other textile crafts, such as felting. Recently she has also been exploring silk paper-making and creative weaving. Sometimes these other activities are inspiration for the bag-making - eg, incorporating a woven panel in a bag.

Katie also teaches textile crafts, mainly through adult workshops and has exhibited regularly with Creative Cairngorms and the SBSA (Iona Gallery, Kingussie).

Waiting for photo of Leo Sharratt, Dingwall

Leo Sharratt

LEO SHARRATT born in Durham City 1934 has lived in Swordale, Evanton, for over 30 years teaching in several local schools, most latterly in Dingwall Academy.

Studied art in Newcastle University and the Slade School of Art, London. Lectured in Art History and Foundation Studies In Chester and Wrexham schools of art before the move north.

Used to be better known as an abstract painter, showing in John Moore's Liverpool Exhibitions, The Arts in Europe (Brussels), Wales and the Modern Movement (Aberwstwyth University) and a number of touring shows with the Arts Council , "Group 75" etc. Work in various collections including John Moore's, Bertrand Russel Peace Foundation, the Welsh Collection etc. Love of the Scottish mountain landscape is an enduring thing, hence the return to a very early interest in landscape painting. Also, being a mountain walker climber and skier, I'm continually finding new material and ideas.

In addition to the above, I have shown quite regularly with the Royal Scottish Academy over recent years in both Edinburgh & Glasgow- also once with the Scottish Gallery / Sothebys on line summer auction show.

Mike Matejewicz Photograhy, Aviemore,

Mike Matejewicz Photograhy

I live in Aviemore which is only a stone's throw from few of the most beautiful landscapes and panoramic coastlines in the world. I've been rediscovering Lochs, glens and the coastline through the lenses and filters.

My personal favorite is Loch Morlich. With each and every visit, I see things I have never seen before, or see them in different ways. At the same time, I try to catch different light, angle and weather - so it never looks the same. This allows more of my own personality to show through in my photographs, too.

It has become my passion to bring these spectacular views to print to share with all. Enjoy!

Miriam Smith, Culloden Moor,

Miriam Smith

I was born in the Highlands of Scotland. Being brought up with the sea close on one hand and heather clad hills on the other, instilled me with a fascination of the natural world.

From as far back as I can remember this interest came hand in hand with a compulsion to translate my experience of the environment into paint. Despite this, I spent most of my adult life working in office administration, with drawing and painting continuing as ‘just a hobby’. It was not until I reached 40 that I decided to pursue a career in art. I currently exhibit in galleries such as, Macgregor Fine Art, Glasgow, The Castle Gallery, Inverness, The 1896 Gallery, Boat of Garten and Loch Eilein Gallery, Rothiemurchus to name a few.

I work in a variety of media but predominately watercolour, which I love for its fluidity, freshness and unpredictability, properties which I feel are echoic of Scotland itself. Many of my paintings feature the ever-changing sea, mysterious woods or the tiny, yet bold, wildflowers that carpet the countryside. I paint spontaneously, preferring not to over plan so that I can work with the medium rather than try to restrain it.

This allows the painting to change and progress with each piece of work becoming an exploration, not just of my subject but also of the paint and it’s interaction with water and paper. I maintain an element of experimentation within my work so that painting continues to be an adventure and quite simply, a joy.

Further examples of my work can be seen on my web site and I am happy to accept commissions so please feel free to enquire, on a no obligation basis.

Philippa Mitchell, Kingussie,

Philippa Mitchell

I trained at Leicester Polytechnic in the mid '80s, gaining a degree in textiles and fashion which gave me a love of drawing, colour and surface pattern.

After ten years as a textile and homewares designer in industry for companies such as Laura Ashley and Royal Doulton, I became a primary teacher in the Highlands. Ten years on, I have now found a good balance of part-time teaching and making art.

My art is mostly representational. I am influenced by our wonderful, wild, Cairngorms National Park, its nature and landscape. I exhibit in local galleries, with Creative Cairngorms and I am happy to be contacted if you would like to make an appointment to see any of the available work on my website.

Waiting for photo of Rosie Fisher, Grantown-on-Spey

Rosie Fisher

Rosie began her studies at Nottingham school of Art and then moved to London to St Martins school of Art where she graduated in Graphic Design and Illustration. Following a few years working as a book illustrator she completed a PGCE and qualified as an Art teacher, teaching in secondary schools in the London area.

After spending 18 months in the Alps with her husband, they returned to make their home in the Highlands where they ran a Guest House and raised their two children.

Rosie returned to teaching in the local school, and began to attend the Scottish Sculpture Workshop during the school holidays where she learned to use the pneumatic tools to carve stone. She had already begun to carve wood whilst in Austria where both good quality carving wood and tools were readily available.

She also used the school holidays to broaden her own art education by attending Summer schools at the Scottish art schools, enjoying being guided by artists with different styles and approaches to the subject.

These days Rosie is a painter, usually choosing to work in acrylics. She is also designer and sculptor in wood and stone, and occasionally runs a class for adult art groups. She continues to take opportunities to be the student as well and likes to keep her drawing hand and eye sharp at the life drawing classes.

She paints in a contemporary representational style. Her chosen subject matter is varied, often incorporating figures or animals in motion. She likes the liveliness of movement and gesture, and aims to keep the colours clean and fresh.

Many paintings spring from her own experience of life in the Highlands, the wildlife and changing weather, country dancing, music making and interesting characters. Other works are inspired by newspaper stories and images, and travelling abroad.

Sarah Grant, Conon Bridge,

Sarah Grant

I was born in the Highlands and for many years I have been teaching and enjoying passing on what I have learnt to adults and children.

I studied at Glasgow School of Art and then did teacher training at Moray House in Edinburgh. Most of my career has been teaching in Schools and a Special Needs School. I have also taught in Community Education, Adult Education and various Art groups and workshops. I have loved teaching and helping people be creative and gain confidence in their work. Every two years or so I would also put my own work into group exhibitions or solo exhibitions.

Painting for me is an interpretation of my surroundings. I love seeing the changes and infinite variety in colour and pattern and energy that is all around us through the seasons and new compositions in every scene. My aim is to paint impressions and feelings of what I see. I work in oils, acrylics, watercolour, pastels and mixed media I have recently taken up an interest in weaving and felt making, silk painting and fibre crafts which are quite often abstract in contrast to my paintings which are usually representational impressions.

I have joined Creative Cairngorms and enjoyed meeting and exhibiting with other artists and craft people through the year.

Anne Bridgen, Kingussie,

Anne Bridgen

I am a fused glass artist working in the Cairngorms National Park, from which I draw inspiration to make landscapes and birds in glass.

I love the experimental side of working with glass, the intense colours, and the way in which light enhances this medium, hence naming my business Fused and Light.

I now have a studio gallery at Chapel House Arts, 100 High Street, Kingussie. This is a new purpose-built art centre where you can see changing fine art exhibitions, locally produced craft work and take part in glass fusing and other courses. The larger space means I can start to use a much broader range of techniques - come and see my lockdown work of large glass bowls or my smack of glass jellyfish!

Dawn Hawkins

I am inspired by the wonderful landscapes of the Cairngorms National Park and the Moray coast beyond. It gives me many opportunities to develop my photography skill and style.

I have been passionate about Photography since I was a teenager. My first 'proper' camera was a Pentax 35mm film camera. Many years on I now use a digital SLR camera.

The change to digital technology has allowed a more rapid development of my photography. Despite the huge size of the Cairngorms I am attracted to the intimate and atmospheric details of the landscape. I also love the abstract detail in close up shots and my perennial flower garden also inspires me.

My approach, once I find my subject, is to carefully plan how best to capture it to best match my vision.

Spirit of Cairngorms, Newtonmore,

Spirit of Cairngorms

Spirit of Cairngorms includes the work of Artist David Fallows and Jewellery and Card Maker Lena Fallows, who live and work in Newtonmore.

David has painted since selling his first work at the age of just twelve years. More recently he painted the pictures used as the work of 'Molly MacDonald' (Susan Hampshire) in the long-running TV series 'Monarch of the Glen'. He was originally trained in Oils, but now paints mostly in watercolour, with oils and pastes still featuring from time to time. David also produces a range of greetings cards based on his paintings of the Scottish Landscape and has also recently begun to experiment in landscape created from fused glass.

Lena works with hand made cards using an increasingly complex mix of die cutting, stamping and surface textures and also produces hand made jewellery from a wide range of semi precious stones including pendants, ear-rings and bracelets.

Their work is available for sale on their website, through Creative Cairngorms and Society of Badenoch and Strathspey Artists' exhibitions and through one or two outlets in Newtonmore.

Due to severely restricted space their studio is not normally open to the public, though a phone call can often provide for a suitable arrangement to view to be made.

Driftaway Art

Jo specialises in driftwood crafts, mainly mirrors and candleholders. She finds the forms, texture and grain of the wood fascinating and beautiful and loves nothing more than combing local beaches.

Each piece of wood carries its own secret history, from the journey down a river or across the sea, tossed and carved by the waves, nibbled by fish and crustaceans to be beached onto the pebbles or sand.

Jo chooses the wood carefully with each unique form showing the craft best suited to produce a piece of functional art.

Why not take a piece of recycled Driftaway Art a wee bit further on its voyage!

Lynn Robinson, Aviemore,

I have been working as a professional photographer for nearly 30 years and I am still absolutely loving it.

I thoroughly enjoy:-

Interpreting what my clients and customers want, fulfilling the brief and taking pictures that please and delight.

The Challenge of keeping up with the technology and all the new developments in such an exciting creative industry.

Going to new venues and locations, sorting out interesting places that will make the best shots.

Making the photography a happy relaxed experience for all concerned.

I studied at the Royal College of Art, achieving an MA in photography in 1983. Returning to Cumbria I began working as a photographer, documenting community projects and teaching photography in formal settings. Further study in 1991 at St. Martins College Lancaster lead to a post grad. Diploma in Youth and Community work. I continued to work with a wide variety of individuals and community groups enabling others to discover and explore their creativity through photography.

For the last six years I have concentrated on more commercial commissions, wedding photography and family lifestyle portrait photography.

Rona Kant, Carrbridge,

Rona Kant

Rona developed her passion for painting when she moved from Glasgow, to the Highlands of Scotland in 2000. Inspired by the majestic surroundings of the Cairngorms National Park where she lives, she started to paint in acrylics to capture the light and convey the intense colours which are evident in her work today.

Prior to her move to the Highlands, Rona graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art with a First Class Honours Degree in Interior Design, and then went on to gain a Master of Arts Degree in Furniture Design and Technology from Brunel University. It is this background in design which has helped Rona to achieve her distinctive style that she is known for today.

Rona took up painting as a part time career at the start of 2016 and has spent much of this year working on the many commissions she receives. She has also been exhibiting with ‘Creative Cairngorms’ throughout the Badenoch and Strathspey and Inverness area, as well as having some of her work on display in Aviemore and Carrbridge.

She currently has work hanging in the Royal Bank of Scotland in Aviemore and Rona’s work is held in private collections throughout the UK, Europe and Canada.

Marie-Louise Napier, Grantown on Spey,

Marie-Louise Napier

Having been forced at the age of 14 to choose between art and music, I chose the latter and spent the rest of my life as a professional musician. I always had a yearning to get back to Art and in my late fifties time permitted me to do so.

As I approach my seventieth year I am gleefully immersed in colour and paint.

I began by attending week-long art courses and then, four years ago, took a leap into an inspiring 4-month Folio course in Ullapool. I am only slightly hampered by losing the sight in one eye and gaining DMD in the other! It has spurred me onwards, and hopefully upwards.

Recently I have so enjoyed the challenge of combining my musical and my artistic skills by composing lullabies for new grandchildren and other new arrivals. I then incorporate the music into a painting, involving many happy hours of research and planning.

I live between the river Spey and the pine woods, and trees have always fascinated me, as has all the wonderful scenery on my doorstep.

Ann Evans, Newtonmoe,

Ann Evans

I was fascinated by art as a child and spent my early creative years gaining good practical experience in the decorative art of porcelain painting.

My married life has been in Scotland where I studied for a degree in Art History. I was also able to study art and design and attend night classes
at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen.

My degree ultimately led to a teaching job at the university in Naples, Italy where the ceramic and textile painting is so bold and colourful.
My personal project, while there, was to find some of the 500 species of wild flowers and to paint them.

On returning to the Highlands I began to appreciate more the delicate and strong but beautiful subtle earthy colours of the landscape where
many wild flowers are found.

I frequently use watercolour for my flower paintings as it is a medium I find most suited to achieve this juxtaposition of delicate and bold.

I have sold work in galleries and exhibitions in the Grampian area of the National Park where I used to live.

Wild swimmer and artist- I am privileged to be able to live and work in the Highlands.

Every single day I can find something new and wonderful here.

Currently studying BA in Fine Art. My work can best be described as eclectic as I am intrigued by most things that I see and experience.

I work with charcoal, pastels, mixed media and have chosen to show pastel studies of nudes - they are landscapes in themselves, aren’t they?

Most recently after working in the Highland Print Studio I have been producing and exhibiting wooden block and lino prints, which have been exhibited locally.

Antonia Kearton Photography

Originally from Edinburgh, I was lucky enough to move to Strathspey a few years ago with my family. I’ve always taken photographs, but I began to take it far more seriously several years ago, in part because it was something creative I could fit in around a young family.

Taking photographs means for me living with my eyes open, even when I don’t have my camera to hand. I want my photography to help me see the world anew, and to help capture the magic of a place. I am delighted if any of them do that for you! I try to take what I call “quirky landscapes” – landscape photography with a twist, going for an unusual angle or detail, or a recognisable landscape rendered differently. I love getting out with my camera, but that is only half of it – I also love working with the image afterwards, sometimes with multiple textures, to create something recognisable but transformed. Some of my photos like to think they might be paintings!

As well as exhibiting with Creative Cairngorms I sell cards and prints directly, and through the Loch an Eilein Gallery, Elephants in the Pantry in Grantown on Spey, and Nethy House Cafe and Gallery in Nethy Bridge.

Douglas Spalding, Newtonmore,

Love colour, love texture, love fluidity? I use brush and palette knife to paint vibrant vistas, intriguing people and dramatic animals to excite the eye and engage the mind.

When I started drawing and painting as a child I wanted to make art the way I saw the world. Since discovering acrylics I realised that I could explore new colours that brought scenes to life. Building the confidence to paint big and bold and learn through trial and error I created a style with happy bright colours. From magentas and yellows to turquoises, blues and violets my style is all about loving paint and especially my most favourite of all, my love of orange paint.

Whether in the mountains or by the sea, my passion is to draw you something you know and love but to see it in a different light. I also enjoy the challenge of a commission that can touch the heart, be it a painting of a special place or a beloved face.

Come to the Cairngorms and see my paintings at Chapel House Arts, The Wild Flour café, the Letterbox Restaurant and Loch Insh Boathouse Restaurant. View my website and FaceBook page, Orange Paint Pot for work in progress and examples of commissions new and old. Get in touch and tell me what inspires you!

Sandra Barras, Grantown on Spey,

I hold a BA in Fine Art and taught to secondary level in England. Having spent many walking holidays in the Highlands I moved with my family to Grantown on Spey in July 2016 following retirement.

The main thread of my work is traditional watercolour but I also work in pastels, acrylics and oils. It is the natural world that excites me and I strive to capture a sense of place, mood and atmosphere whilst remaining reasonably accurate to typography, working from life or my own photographs.

Now established in my highland home I have the chance to connect more intimately with an environment that hitherto I have only experienced as a tourist.

Clare Blois, Inverness,

Clare Blois

CLARE BLOIS ran her own successful gallery in the Highlands before "retiring" to concentrate on the development of her own work. She originally studied textiles and painting with the Open College of the Arts and has won several accolades including the prestigious JD Fergusson Arts Award, presented in memory of the Scottish Colourist painter. She exhibits widely in Scotland and beyond.

"I am a landscape painter and in the tradition of many Scottish artists I am inspired by the physical qualities of oil paint and the possibilities it provides in terms of colour, movement and texture. My simple objective is for honesty in my work in making paintings that convey the exhilaration I feel as I explore the Highland land, sea, wind, rain and sun. I am thrilled if others can feel it too."

Clare works en plein air when possible and from her home near Beauly and her studio at the new Inverness Creative Academy (WASPS)

Paul Phillips, Aviemore,

Paul Phillips

Paul was an art student during the 1960’s, graduating with BA Hons (equiv) and an enduring love of wild places. He abandoned a teaching career-path in favour of the open road north and the Highlands and Islands. When not climbing Munros, he spent half of the year making pictures for private collections, the other, in a small boat in search of lobsters.

After retraining and working as staff-nurse in a small Highland hospital, retirement was celebrated by cycling the length of Europe alone. A self-published account lead to further writing.

“My pictures are recreations; graphic portrayals born of a desire to re-live – and hopefully share – a special moment, one of those of which you can say afterwards I knew I was truly alive. Wandering our mountains, and working on the sea, I have been granted many such moments, real visions of vivid colour, or intense pencilled detail.”

I am an avid hillwalker and took to photography to record great days out in the hills and then became interested in photography in general.
If I hadn’t had an engineering career, I would have wanted to be a carpenter and have enjoyed making a range of things over recent years from wooden maps, pyrographic shapes and small bits of furniture, most recently an artist’s easel for our grand daughter.

I live in the Cairngorms national park, and take inspiration from the beauty around me.
I attended Canterbury college of art in the 1980’s. After my foundation year, I studied Fashion, clothing and textile design.
On leaving college I was approached by Jane Asher to illustrate one of her books as well as taking on local illustration commissions.
I was also a member of SIAD (Society of industrial artists and designers).
After a spell with Liberty of London, I embarked on a career in Interior design, setting up my own Interior design company.
In total I have been in the design industry for over 36 years, and worked with some wonderful clients on amazing projects.
Moving to Scotland has allowed the time to explore my love of painting and sketching.
I paint with watercolours and more recently have found a passion for pastels.
I have sold work locally and nationally.

I am Devonshire of origin and have been living in Scotland for the last 30 years plus - first in the Scottish Borders then 15 years in Caithness in the Far north of Scotland and now retired in Dulnain Bridge.
I have always been interested in crafts and love the journey of turning one thing in to something beautiful. My passion at present is Needle Felting. I like 3D sculpture and 'painting' with wool. My other passion is spinning.....I don't like knitting!

Sue Arber, ,

Sue Arber

I am a self-taught artist and photographer living near Inverness and before moving to Scotland in 1982, I worked as a freelance photographer in the music business, but now I enjoy painting and photographing the seashore, wildlife and landscapes of Northern Scotland, taking a closer look at the textures and form occurring in the landscape and attempting to capture the essence of the ever changing seasons and weather conditions. I like to experiment with a wide range of materials including pastels, collage, watercolours and acrylic ink.
In 2019 I completed an NC in Art and Design at UHI Inverness.

I sell a range of my vintage rock-band photographs online with Fine Art America
https://fineartamerica.com/profiles/sue-arber and have exhibited my paintings in galleries and exhibitions throughout the North East of Scotland.

I currently volunteer at Aigas Field Centre, assisting with the general husbandry of the Scottish wildcats currently being held there as part of the ‘Saving Wildcats’ captive breeding programme. This gives me lots of opportunities to observe and photograph these beautiful animals, aiming to capture the spirit and personality of the individual animal in my paintings and drawings.

I am an amateur photographer and artist. Living in the Cairngorms area has provided me with many scenic and wildlife photography opportunities and so a natural progression has been to produce and sell greetings cards and prints. I also enjoy drawing and painting in oils and watercolour, again influenced in no small part by my surroundings.
After many years of worldwide travel, often involving trains, I have had some of my photographic images published in travel brochures. Wildlife has always been a passion and I often draw or paint from photographs I have taken locally.

WILDLIFE AND ANIMAL PORTRAIT ARTIST

I was born and have spent most of my life living on the Lands End penisula in Cornwall. I had a passion for painting as a child and it has continued throughout my life with no formal training I am predominantly self taught.

Four years ago my husband and I made a life change by moving to the Cairngorms to be near our daughter and family and I decided to pursue my hobby full time.
The Cairngorms provides me with a wealth of subjects from insects, plants, animals and birds many of which can only be found in this unique area.
In my four years here I have been lucky enough to work with the RSSZ Highland Wildlife Park on conservation projects such as The Pine Hoverfly and The Dark Bordered Beauty Moth with designs for shop products and also Cairngorms Connect on a live sketch evening with a painting currently in progress.

As well as selling my originals I produce prints, cards, mugs and many other products from my artwork and these can be bought online or found locally.
My workshops will be starting locally in the Autumn for Sketchbook Binding and Drawing and Watercolour Painting for Beginners.

My work can be found at
RSSZ Highland Wildlife Park, Kincraig, open All week 10 – 4pm
1896 Gallery, Boat of Garten, Wed – Sat 10 – 5pm

Gill Williams Photography and Art, Ian Williams Artist

Gill
After a 30 year career in the police as a police diver, Gill retired to the Isle of Skye with her husband Ian and took up photography, specialising in landscape, aurora and underwater photography. Her first love is art though, which she enjoyed before joining the police. Originally specialising in pastels and watercolours she now focuses on oils in tiny miniature as she loves detail. In 2023 she had two pieces accepted by the Royal Society of Miniature Artists for their summer exhibition in London. Her photographs are all printed on aluminium and her miniature paintings are on brown clam shells and ceramic alumina. Gill is now looking forward to basing her photography in the Cairngorms and producing more miniature paintings from them.

Ian
Ian Williams BA(Hons) completed a fine art degree in 2001 and relocated to the Highlands of Scotland. He resided with his wife Gill on the beautiful Isle of Skye for 22 years where he responded to the wild life and extraordinary landscapes and unique geology.
Ian works with clay and wood. He also uses watercolours, oils, acrylics paints and inks.
Ian has had several books published, an illustrated and two fantasy novels.
Both Ian and his wife Gill have worked for several decades with international and local charities raising in the region of £600,000. They continue to assist.
Ian and Gill have had many years of enjoying and responding to the natural beauty of the Cairngorms National Park and at the end of 2023 they relocated to the Cairngorms National Park, in particular within the Abernethy Forest.
It is the intention to continue producing art including pottery, paintings and sculptures.’

EJ's Highland Creations, Aviemore,

EJ's Highland Creations

EJ's Highland Creations is the brainchild of Ellen Thornell and was founded in May 2022 to showcase my skills as a crafter and photographer. I am constantly inspired by the natural beauty all around me in the Highlands of Scotland, where I live, and have created a business making individually handmade gift items.

Where possible I have created products using materials that are recycled, sustainable, and eco-friendly. The aim of my business is to produce lovely products that have the minimum impact on the environment. My resin jewellery and creations feature heather and other natural materials that I have collected locally and dried myself. I also design and make products such as scarves and tote bags featuring my uniquely-available photographs printed on fabric.

I hope you love and enjoy the items that I have produced.
