A new trip from specialist InsideVietnam Tours gives guests a rare chance to discover Vietnam’s remote communities in the lesser-visited but diverse and dramatic northern region of the country.
Focusing on more rural areas, the 12-night ‘Northern Star’ trip explores the various communities of the northern highlands. Guests will stay one night in a traditional stilt house with the Tay community in the village of Pac Ngoi on the shore of Ba Be Lake in the Bac Kan province. Staying with a family, there is the chance to enjoy a home-cooked meal and learn about life in the village. The tour explores other villages and meets other ethnic groups, taking in a visit to a local market in the town of Meo Vac in the province of Ha Giang close to the Chinese border. Surrounded by dramatic peaks, Hmong, Zao and Lo Lo people come from their villages on the surrounding mountains to sell their wares, to stock up on supplies, and to socialise. The tour will also visit a women's co-operative that produces traditional woven and embroidered handicrafts.
Starting and finishing in Hanoi, the fully-tailored ‘Northern Star’ itinerary costs from £1770 per person (based on two sharing). It includes B&B accommodation each night (staying in hotels, homestays, an eco lodge, Halong Bay cruise and overnight sleeper train), seven lunches and three dinners, all transport within Vietnam, airport transfers and guided excursions. International flights are extra and can be booked via InsideVietnam Tours with Vietnam Airlines from around £569 return (London to Hanoi).
